This position has responsibilities in the areas of equipment maintenance, building maintenance, grounds maintenance, tooling design & tooling fabrication.

Summary Statement:

With general guidance from management ensures upkeep and routine maintenance of the company’s assets, including but not limited to buildings, machinery, tools, and tooling. Utilizes mechanical knowledge to perform tasks in a proper and cost-effective manner, adhering to applicable safety & environmental requirements. Works with the engineering group to prepare effective maintenance plans based on equipment manufacturers’ recommended maintenance schedule. Strives to minimize machine downtime due to maintenance and/or unscheduled repair operations. Works with engineering group to implement custom tooling & automation projects.

Major Areas of Accountability:
  1. Facilities Maintenance:
    1. Ensure building grounds are managed, including but not limited to mowing grass and removal of snow.
    2. Ensure all HVAC units are functioning properly and maintained.
    3. Ensure compressed air system is well-maintained with minimized leaks.
    4. Work with forklift vendor to keep lift trucks in working order and perform quarterly Co2 testing.
  2. Equipment Maintenance:
    1. Conducts routine maintenance in a timely manner on all equipment with the various departments within the plant.
    2. Conducts unplanned maintenance in a timely manner utilizing the resources at hand to ensure minimal downtime.
    3. Ensure equipment safety mechanisms are functioning properly and are not being bypassed. Working with engineering group to develop functional safety mechanisms.
    4. Ensure maintenance records are accurate and complete on any past or present MRO.
  3. Tooling Fabrication & Maintenance:
    1. Utilizes fabrication skills to maintain & adapt existing tooling for project or department specific applications.
    2. Reads and interprets engineering design drawings for custom tools and fixtures.
    3. Fabricates custom tools and fixtures.

Equipment Used:

Uses a computer terminal, Tools and machinery including but not limited to, hand tools, milling machines, lathes, welders, bandsaws, ironworker, forklifts & outdoor power equipment such as skid steer, mower, etc.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a shop production environment with routine exposure to the outdoors. Frequent exposure to mechanical hazards, moderate noise levels, and potential electrical shock hazards. Production environment is climate controlled, but exposure to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures (cold/hot) is possible. Limited local travel may be required to vendor locations.

Physical Requirements:
  • Strength and movement:
    Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit. Frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. Routinely uses hand strength to grasp tools, supplies and equipment. Occasionally climbs ladders, and/or works at elevated heights. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. frequently lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
  • Sensory ability:
    Vision must be sufficient to read precision measurement tools along with
    words, numbers and detailed diagrams on paper and/or computer screens.
  • Communication:
    Verbal & written communication occurs frequently with staff from other departments, vendors and customers.
Mental Requirements:
  • Reading Ability:
    The position requires the ability to read technical text and drawings.
  • Writing:
    Writing skills are required at a level consistent with general communications.
  • Verbal Skills:
    Verbal communication needs to be at a level consistent with providing technical explanations of the work being performed.
  • Math Skills:
    Math ability needs to be at a level consistent with what is required for general & precision fabrication.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Reasoning ability needs to be at a level consistent with solving complex problems and to identify the facts. Understanding when technical expertise needs to be consulted is a must. Solutions may involve input from multiple interested parties.
Employment Selection Criteria:

This position requires mechanical knowledge and skills. Employee must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, additional education, certifications and/or technical training is desirable. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 2-5+ years’ experience in maintenance, fabrication and/or related fields.
